For those who want to get back to nature, a log cabin could be the ideal holiday getaway. You could either buy a resale log cabin or if you are the more adventurous type, purchase a self-build cabin and search for your ideal plot of land.
Log cabins have come a long way in terms of design. You can now get quality craftsmanship at an affordable price. Most log cabins are now built with the emphasis being environmentally friendly, and with using natural resources.
Where possible, try to purchase a plot with planning permission already passed by the local council.
Most would want to build their log cabin in a rural setting, however rural plots have their own set of rules and obtaining planning permission can be difficult.
Rule of thumb is that a rural plot must be more than 10,000m2 in order to build any structure.
Depending on the area of Spain that you wish to purchase a plot in, the criteria may be different. Always check with the local authorities what the building criteria and regulations are in that particular area or province.
It is vital that planning permission is obtained before you erect your log cabin. Failure to do this could result in a fine!
Also, if you have not gained planning permission when you come to sell the property, the deeds will only exist for the land. Thus making the property worthless to yourself and potential buyers.
