LEGAL ADVICE IN SPAIN

What is a Gestor?

A Gestor is an official agent licensed by the Spanish government who deals with all state related paperwork and all types of Spanish bureaucracy.  Below is a list of what Gestors deal with:

·     Self employment and social security

·     Driving licences and other car related matters

·     Transfer of vehicle ownership

·     Help with applying for your Residencia or NIE

·     Other Spanish paperwork matters

When to use a lawyer

Spanish lawyers offer advice on the following:

·     Property and urban law

·     Divorce and custody matters

·     Disputes and litigation

·     Inheritance

Advice

Always ask for recommendations from local residents, this will give you an insight into what lawyers to use or even not to use.  Many lawyers, especially in the coastal areas of Spain speak English. It is of upmost importance that you can communicate with your chosen lawyer and understand all the legal advice they are giving you.

Always ask for an estimated price for the works to be carried out by your chosen lawyer, remember as with any type of work, you are within your rights to obtain more than one quote. The estimate should detail exactly what the lawyer will be doing and what they are charging for.
